As Mother’s Day approaches, there are many ads for jewelry Mom might like. From big hoop earrings to sparkly tennis bracelets, there’s something for every mom. Gifts are limited to jewelry either. Think about flowers, cards, candy, breakfast in bed or dinner out.
The best cards I ever received were made at school with construction paper and crayon drawings. Small hands created priceless treasures such as pop up cards, miniature clay pots and my favorite – a felt heart edged with gold glitter.
As a teacher, I used to help my students put together a cookie jar mix, a paper bouquet, or write a poem. One student wrote of his mother: “Her hands are soft but her feet are hard.” I hope she got a pedicure that year!
As precious as mothers are, so we all are. Why? There’s a phrase in Zechariah 9 which says, “the people will sparkle in the land, like jewels in a crown.” Would you like to be an emerald, a sapphire or a ruby?
Remember, you are precious to God, not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.
